About Me – Mel Wrote It
Hey, I’m Mel.
I’m a lived experience consultant, policy evaluator, and community advocate who’s all about safeguarding people, the environment, and amplifying voices that often get drowned out.
Making sure the systems we rely on actually work for the people, places and creatures they’re meant to serve.

I’ve been given the gift of endless curiosity, a big sense of wonder, and autism-enhanced justice-seeking and pattern recognition — which basically means I notice things other people tend to miss. It’s part instinct, part hard-wired skill, and it’s served me well in my professional advocacy background, from analysing complex policies to catching the little details that make a big difference.
Why I Changed Direction
I started Mel Wrote It back in 2021 with business awards copywriting — something I sort of stumbled into when a friend needed help with an entry. It worked for a while… until it didn’t.
Three years later, after recurring autistic burnout and the feeling I was pushing uphill in the wrong direction, I realised I wanted to put my time and energy into work that actually lights me up — policy evaluation, safeguarding, and advocacy.
That’s the stuff that gets me fired up in the best way.

Lived Experience, Advocacy, and a Love of the Natural World
I’m a Parent-Carer, Home Educator, and former Lived Experience Advocate who’s been involved in consultations, policy development, and advisory roles at local, state, and national levels.
My sense of wonder comes alive when I’m out in nature with my kids — watching birds along the foreshore, finding tiny patterns in leaves, or exploring bush tracks. Those moments ground me and fuel my determination to protect the natural world at a systemic level, because I know how much these spaces matter for community well being, biodiversity, and future generations.
My approach is neuro-affirming, evidence-based, and not afraid to call things out when they’re not right. I care about the details, but I also care about the people — and the places — behind them.
What I Stand For

Safeguarding and Advocacy – making sure communities are heard and protected
-
Pattern and Policy Analysis – spotting what others overlook

Environmental and Community Protection – linking local realities to systemic change
-
Media Advocacy – joining social conversations that spark attitudinal change
-

When I’m not deep in a report or connecting with agencies, you’ll probably find me on a kid-friendly bush walk, heading to a home-school excursion, or following my curiosity down a new research rabbit hole.
